Choices for Uniform Customisation
Screen Printing
Screen printing is a traditional method of transferring a design onto a surface, such as clothing or promotional items. It offers vibrant and long-lasting colours, and can be used with a wide range of fabric types.
Setting up for screen printing is more costly than most other processes, however, it is very efficient for high volumes. As such, it is not typically suitable for low volume requirements. There are also some limitations with highly detailed designs and specific colour sets. Speak with us for more information.
Digital Printing
Digital printing is a method that involves printing the design directly onto the surface using digital inkjet or laser printers. It is excellent for the printing of intricate details and variable data printing. Due to lower setup costs, digital printing is also affordable for smaller print runs.
Because digital printing requires a specific substrate to accept the printing inks, there are a smaller range of fabrics available for use with this method. Additionally, designs may have a slightly less vibrant appearance and lower durability than with other uniform branding methods.
Digital Transfer
Digital transfer involves printing a design on a special transfer paper and then applying it to the target surface using heat and/or pressure. This printing process allows for full-colour and intricate designs. It is ideal for small quantities suitable for use with a wide variety of fabrics.
As digital transfer prints on top of the fabric the finished design may have a slightly raised feel. This can affect the texture of the clothing, and durability may vary depending upon transfer quality. Digital transfer is also a popular method for branding non-clothing merchandise.
Embroidery
Embroidery is the process of stitching a design directly onto textiles using thread. It offers a premium, three-dimensional look and is probably the most durable of all the custom uniform branding methods. Embroidery can be used with virtually any fabric type, including textured materials.
This method is commonly used for logo branded workwear with an otherwise simple fabric style. It is not suitable, however, for highly detailed or photorealistic designs as colours are based upon individual threads. Embroidery can also be very expensive for large designs.
Sublimation Printing
Sublimation (also known as “dye sublimation”) is a method that uses heat to transfer ink onto specially coated substrates. This process allows full colour and high-resolution designs with the potential for all-over print coverage such as with custom sports uniforms. The finished result offers a soft and durable feel that is comfortable for wearing.
Because sublimation printing required a special substrate for ink transfer, the range of suitable fabrics is more limited. Also, whilst it is possible to create colourful and amazingly creative uniforms with sublimation printing, the colours are more susceptible to UV light and may fade over time.
Custom Fabric Design
Another possibility, especially with custom corporate clothing branding, is to create a unique fabric design for your company. Rather than printing onto finished items of clothing, custom fabric design involves the production of an entire roll of fabric. Your custom workwear is then made from this printed fabric.
